      What is Hebrew By The Book?

      Hebrew By The Book is a self-paced 12-lesson Biblical Hebrew course that takes beginners from the alphabet to reading and understanding Scripture and prayer. With just 7 minutes of practice a day, students learn Dr. Bruce Greenstein’s “break the word apart” method for finding the root at the heart of any Hebrew word, so ancient texts start to open up in their original language. Courses are offered to both English and Spanish speakers.

      Is this a foreign language course?

      Hebrew By The Book investigates the language through a Biblical lens giving people a chance to dive into Scripture with a wider lens, appreciating many different perspectives of prayer, psalms, chanting the music within the Torah or prophetic readings while opening up deeper meanings to everyone on Jewish customs and rituals.

      What will I know by the end of this course?

      How to read, identify and break down letters and words in the Hebrew language that are so often used in Jewish prayer books, Psalms and other Biblical stories. You also come to appreciate why it’s called the holy tongue through the use of gematria, cantillation notes and history surrounding each of the ancient writings explored.

      This is a self-paced Biblical Hebrew course containing 12 powerful lessons that can be accessed by you whenever ready. We encourage 2 lessons per week with 7 minutes of practice each day – repetition that’s short, easy and builds progressively over 6 weeks.

      Do I need any prior Hebrew experience?

      NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY – The pace of our video lessons and the supporting practice material give you more than enough time to pick up the language in a gradual, sustained way.

      How long are the sessions?

      Each video lesson varies in length from 8 – 12 minutes. A written transcript is available in English or Spanish along with a 2-page Practice Sheet to further improve your skills. There’s subtitles available for each video too!

      What type of materials will I need?

      All you need is the desire to learn and have some fun along the way! Our course provides 5 “magical” CHEAT SHEETS for you to print and keep with you to progress through each lesson – they are KEY! That’s it!!
